Player Profile: Kate Holmes

Kate Holmes

Name: Kate Holmes
D.O.B.: 26.03.82
Previous Clubs: Portsmouth, Lincoln City, Peterborough Utd, Carlisle Utd.
Debut Match: First game of this season, Brighton Hove Albion away.
Honours: Runners up Southern Combination with Portsmouth last season. Hampshire county cup winners with Portsmouth. Inter Service Champions with the Army on 7 occasions.
Ambitions: Play in the National Division
Career highlight: Probably the 5-5 FA Cup game against Bristol Academy with Pompy last season, it was a great game to be involved in as we came back three times. We eventually lost on penalties.
Male footballer(s) you admire and why: There’s loads, mostly old Liverpool greats like Dalgleish, Souness, and alike due to the fact I’m a huge Reds fan. Players in the modern game that I enjoy watching are people like Mascherano, or Gatuso who I like to think I’m similar to. I like players who cover the pitch, and put in the unseen work for the team.
Female footballer(s) you admire and why: It’s hard not to admire people like Mary Phillips purely for how long she has played at the top level. But having had a brief experience of playing against with Fara Williams in a pre-season tournament in Preston I’d have to say her. I’d say she is not far off from the complete article.
Other achievements: I used to do Judo for Great Britain Juniors, so I suppose that would be in there. I was British Champion for my age and weight group and was involved in the Youth Olympic squad in 1999. Apart from that, I’ve been in the Army for nearly nine years, I guess that is some form of achievement.
